Social Science Program

Understanding that people are an integral part of coral reef ecosystems is a core principle of the Coral Reef Conservation Program (CRCP). Social science plays a critical role in supporting a holistic approach to coral reef management and in ensuring that these ecosystems continue to benefit society. CRCP conducts social science research and monitoring while working closely with communities and partners to link complex challenges with practical, socially informed solutions. By deepening our understanding of how people interact with coral reefs, managers can better evaluate the social and economic impacts of conservation policies, interventions, and activities.
