To conserve and restore the condition of U.S. coral reef ecosystems challenged by natural and human-accelerated changes, the Coral Reef Conservation Act of 2000 (the “Act”) was reauthorized in December 2022 as part of the James M. Inhofe National Defense Authorization Act. The Act promotes science-based management, sustainable use of coral reef ecosystems, and research and development to benefit local communities and the nation.

The reauthorized Act includes:

A group of people sit together under an awning with tropical water behind them.A group of young people with matching shirts sit and stand together, smiling at the camera.A scuba diver writes on an underwater clipboard while hovering over a coral reef.
